Federal government approves framework for \”Work and Stay Agency\”
Digital platform to consolidate and accelerate skilled worker immigration procedures
The Federal Cabinet has approved the framework for the establishment of a \”Work and Stay Agency\” With this new central point of contact, the federal government aims to counteract the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in numerous industries and make labour migration procedures more efficient.
In future, applicants will only have to submit their data and documents once, in accordance with the \”once-only principle\”. Instead of having to contact several authorities, there will be a central point of contact. The procedures are to be made digital, more transparent and, thanks to an optional English-language procedure, more accessible for international skilled workers. Employers, in turn, will be able to actively initiate the process for their future employees.

The agency is to be established in stages. The tender for central IT components is planned for 2026. The specific implementation and timetable are to be determined in interministerial consultations.
