Skilled Immigration Act

your opportunities under the Skilled Immigration Act

Entry and work in Germany. If you are a qualified professional from abroad and would like to come to Germany, or if you are a company looking to recruit skilled workers, then the Skilled Immigration Act is an important basis for you. It was introduced to enable people with specific qualifications from so-called third countries (i.e. outside the EU) to enter Germany and work here.

Who is a skilled worker within the meaning of this Act?
According to the law, a skilled worker is someone who either has recognised or equivalent foreign vocational training or a university degree that is recognised or equivalent in Germany.
In addition, the intended employment in Germany must match this qualification.

What requirements apply to you as an applicant or employer?
For applicants, the following applies, among other things: Your qualification must be recognised at an early stage, you should have a concrete job offer in Germany, and your livelihood must be secured.

For employers, this means that they must ensure that the employment is qualified, often requiring approval from the Federal Employment Agency, and that the procedure — such as the accelerated procedure — is used.

Language skills — what is expected?
Language skills are an important factor: depending on your country of origin, qualifications and profession, German language skills at least at level B1 may be expected; in some cases, such as the IT sector, English language skills at level B2 are sufficient. Good language skills not only make work easier, but also help you settle into everyday life in Germany.

How does the process work?
First, we check whether your qualifications can be recognised. Then you work with your future employer to take the necessary legal steps – including visa, residence permit, approval from the employment agency if necessary, and use of the fast-track procedure for skilled workers. Once you are in Germany, the integration process begins: you start a job, learn German and get used to your new environment. Under certain conditions, it is even possible to obtain permanent residency.

Why is this route worthwhile?
For you as a skilled worker, it means a real chance for a better professional future in Germany with secure prospects. For companies, it means gaining motivated skilled workers who strengthen your team and contribute diversity and expertise.
