Germany is building a new digital gateway for international professionals and employers: the Work-and-Stay-Agency . This federal initiative is still under development and aims to bring all skilled-immigration steps into one place — no more juggling multiple authorities.
What this means for you
If you’re a qualified worker from abroad: The future platform will let you submit your visa or residence-permit application online, upload required documents digitally, check status in real time and follow the progress centrally. All this will happen via one unified system.
If you’re an employer in Germany:
You’ll benefit from simpler recruitment of international talent — faster processes, a central contact point, less bureaucratic hassle. Even smaller companies will have access. The Local Germany
Why now?
Germany needs hundreds of thousands of skilled workers each year to fill the gap caused by demographic change. Existing immigration and labour-market procedures involve many authorities and are slow. The new agency is designed to reduce this.
What’s next?
Currently the Work-and-Stay-Agency is being planned and the digital platform is still being built. Implementation will be gradual — official launch and full functionality are expected over the coming years.
